These rankings are calculated independently of the Best Colleges rankings using a methodology centered on academic research and reputation.
The U.S. is the top-performing country for 2016, leading the world with 181 ranked institutions. China, while in second place, was far behind with 57 ranked universities.
Europe bested all regions with 312 schools out of the top 750, led by the University of Oxford. On the other end of the spectrum, Africa is the least-represented region, with only 10 ranked schools.
