Let SNEPCO and Shell Nigeria Compensate the Bonga Spill Victims

TOPSHOTS A shovel sits in oil-covered sand at Ao Phrao beach as volunteers work to clean up the area after a major oil slick hit the island of Ko Samet on July 31, 2013. Environmentalists accused a Thai energy firm on July 30 of understating the extent of the major pipeline leak as the navy warned the oil slick might reach the mainland. Tourists were leaving the resort island of Ko Samet in the Gulf of Thailand as workers in protective suits used hoses, buckets and shovels to clean up blackened sand and oil which washed ashore on a once-idyllic beach. The Chairman of Entertainment Foundation of Nigeria, Tee Mac Iseli sent the below message asking everyone for their support in asking that SNEPCO and Shell Nigeria compensate the Bonga spill victims:

“Please help me to share this message. I took the Bonga Oil spill to the National Assembly, we got a resolution from the Committee on Environment, House of Representatives on the 27th of November 2014 for an oil spill which happened December 2011 and till today Shell is ignoring everybody. Enough is enough. People can’t feed themselves in the affected communities. We have recorded 150 death already” ~ Tee Mac Iseli

The Oils spill happened in December 2011 and no clean up done and no compensation has been paid  yet. The House Committee Environmental ordered Shell to pay and the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) notified Shell on the 19.12.14 that they have been levied $ 1,800,095,603.00 for damage done to natural resources and loss of income by the affected shoreline communities, also punitive damage in the same amout to be paid to the Federal Government of Nigeria. both totalling $ 3,600,191,206,00 billion. Shell should live up to their responsibility and compensate the affected communities urgently. People are starving! People are dying! If Shell wants to continue doing business in Nigeria they better start paying. Tee Mac Omatshola ISELI (MFR) Bonga Oil Spill Committee
