Nigeria’s neighbor, Benin Republic has invaded sixteen villages in Okuta, the border town in Baruten local government area of Kwara state and mounted their flag in annexation. Report has it that this action has created fear and panic in those neighborhoods.
According to report, authorities of Benin Republic have further constructed Police Stations also known as Gerdarmes Office, in those areas. This action violates 1914 boundary delimitation between Britain and France which both Nigeria and Republic of Benin has respected all this while.
The Nigerian villages under siege include Ogomne, Bwin, Gandasunon, Kpuru and Woru Wuren Kparu as well as Ajuba,1, Ajuba 2, Saka Yeruman Kparu, Monta, Dotin Kparu, Halidun Kparu, Yakubun Kparu, Sonsi,Gunosani, Alhaji Kparu, Yodo Mankparu and Simen Kparu.
Baruten Local Government Area (Kwara State, Nigeria) has an area of 9,749 km² and a population of 209,459 at the 2006 census and part of the Borgu Game Reserves. ~ NewsTidBitsWithFAB
