A Nigerian woman, Ronke Bewaji Shonde has died at the hands of her abusive husband. The incident was said to have occurred in the early hours of May 6th, 2016 at their residence along Tiemo Crescent, off Awori street in Egbeda (Lagos – Nigeria) where her lifeless body was discovered.

Her husband, Mr. Olalekan Shonde is alleged to have absconded after the incident leaving her lifeless body locked inside their apartment with their 2 kids who had found their mother’s corpse on the floor and was trying to wake her up when neighbors forced the door open. It just makes one wonder the fate of these kids and how traumatizing this whole experience must be for them.

Domestic violence, I know is a very sensitive topic and a lot of marriages are characterized by abuse – physical and/or emotional.
I know it is very hard to make that tough decision to leave when you have kids and/or have been dependent on your partner but you won’t be the first nor will you be the last person who has walked away from an abusive relationship. Life does indeed go on after any and every relationship; be it abusive or not.
Some marriages will bring out the “best” in you whereas others will bring out the “beast” in you. You have to recognize the signs of abuse and figure out a way to handle your business. Walk away while you still can – with your life intact. Your kids and family will thank you for taking that bold step! ~ FAB
